Northwest Children’s Home Building Flooded in January- See the Progress

A recent letter from the Northwest Children’s Home was sent out. If you missed it, you can check it out here.

Did you hear about the flood on January 23rd that wreaked havoc on Volmer Bowl??

Unfortunately the water and debris came over the hill and flooded the lower level of our community Education Center that also housed our out-patient mental health clinic, Brighter Futures. Not only did it displace our clinic staff and clients, it also displaced our elementary and junior high classrooms. Our library and curriculum rooms were also majorly affected.

As an organization, we worked together to clean up, clear out and figure out how to continue to provide services to the children and families we serve. If you tried calling that week chances are you may have gone to voicemail as we were supporting our teams in the aftermath of this incident. We teach the youth we serve about resilience and this was our opportunity to show them!

These are just a few of the pictures from that week following the flood! Yes, we tried to smile and laugh between the heavy sighs and tears. We are so thankful for the staff and volunteers that stepped up to help!!

A quick game to celebrate with some of the Brighter Futures Clinic staff at their temporary location.  We are thankful to have a place to continue services for our kiddos!

It’s not the same, but we are resilient!

If anyone finds a great deal on weighed stuffed animals like Stitch and an elephant, let us know!  That is just one of the favorite things that was lost in the flood.
