(Lewiston, ID) The staff of Orchards Elementary School in Lewiston proudly posed with their new Model PLC flag this morning in front of the school. Professional Learning Community (PLC) training is a way for educators to work together to improve their teaching and the academic performance of their students.
A PLC is a group of educators who meet regularly to:
- Share ideas
- Enhance their teaching practice
- Create a learning environment where students can reach their full potential
- Work collaboratively to improve teaching skills
- Engage in collective inquiry and action research
PLCs typically include teachers at a specific grade level or content area. They meet regularly to:
- Learn new topics
- Problem solve
- Modify instruction and assessments
- Provide data for possible curriculum revision
Professional development is often associated with one-time workshops, seminars, or lectures. In contrast, professional learning is typically interactive, sustained, and customized to teachers’ needs.
