Pilates Instructor Courses at U of I Open for Registration

MOSCOW, Idaho — April 15, 2024 — Registration is now open for the 2024-25 Body Arts and Science International (BASI) Pilates Teacher Training Programs at University of Idaho, set to commence in Fall 2024.

U of I will offer two programs:

  1. Mat Teacher Training, focusing on mat-based exercises.
  2. Comprehensive Teacher Training, incorporating the full spectrum of Pilates resistance-based equipment.

Until Wednesday, May 15, U of I students can access discounted enrollment rates. These programs are designed to impart a deep understanding of Pilates theory, exercises and methodologies suitable for both equipment and mat-based sessions. While the curriculum is geared toward preparing graduates for careers in the Pilates industry, it welcomes participants from all backgrounds.

“While we continue to offer the mat training as an incredible Pilates foundation at U of I, the comprehensive training program greatly expands repertoire to support more client needs and ultimately expands career opportunities for participants,” said Melanie Meenan, coordinator of the Pilates education program at U of I. “As a globally recognized training program, BASI offers a strong foundation steeped in academic excellence and innovation. The BASI program teaches about proper body mechanics, muscle focuses, cueing strategies, anatomy and exercise modifications to support movers of all abilities.”

Graduates from these programs have pursued careers at fitness centers and physical therapy clinics and have even established their private Pilates studios, benefiting immensely from BASI’s expansive instructor and studio network.

Lauren Hovik, a BASI Pilates faculty member with and U of I alumna, will lead the training modules. Having commenced her Pilates journey at U of I as an Exercise Science and Dance student, Hovik trained under eminent mentors, including BASI founder Rael Isacowitz. Today, she extends her expertise globally.

For the 2024-25 academic year, both the comprehensive and mat programs will be presented in BASI’s innovative hybrid Flex format. This approach combines online lectures with in-person modules focused on practical movement analysis and exercises.

The comprehensive training encompasses eight in-person modules scheduled at the new Integrated Pilates Movement Lab on campus in Moscow on Aug. 31-Sept. 1, Oct.12-13, Jan. 18-19 and April 5-6. Upon successful completion, participants will earn a Comprehensive Pilates Teacher certificate from BASI Pilates. Student early bird registration for this course is priced at $3,800 until May 15, increasing to $4,500. Non-students can also take advantage of the early bird registration for $4,200, which increases to $5,000 after the May 15 deadline.

The mat program, delivered through online lectures and four in-person modules on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 and Oct. 12-13, offers an early bird rate of $1,100, increasing to $1,350 after the May 15 deadline for both students and non-students.

U of I students are also provided with practicum/internship credit options, extensive networking opportunities and job placement assistance. Another unique feature is the availability of on-campus final testing at no extra cost. Given the program’s popularity, interested students are encouraged to email [email protected] promptly to secure early bird discounts.
