Prospect Fire Northeast of Moscow Grows Overnight

MOSCOW – The Prospect Fire, located at Junction of Meadow Creek and Prospect Creek northeast of Moscow, grew overnight to 75-100 acres after the initial fire size of 10-20 acres. The fire is expected to remain extremely active throughout the day. It is burning in heavy logging slash. “Slash” is the term used for branches and debris generated during logging operations that remain after trees are harvested.

The fire started at about 4 p.m. Pacific Time Saturday, September 3. Currently, about 100 people are assigned to the fire and a Type 3 Incident Management Team led by Incident Commander Mike McManus has been ordered. The team will take over the fire at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Monday, September 5.

Aircraft are on the scene and will continue to be used to support operations. The weather is going to be hot and dry with a high in the mid-80s.

There are currently no evacuations or closures associated with this fire, which is burning in private industrial timberlands and logging slash.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
