LEWISTON – The Lewiston Rotary Club is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Rotary Peace Park and the public is invited. Shovels will break ground at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at 1402 Prospect Avenue, Lewiston.
The City of Lewiston, represented by Mayor Daniel Johnson, and other park partners such as Early Bird Supply, Pacific Steel, and the Lewis Clark State College (LCSC) Welding Club will be in attendance.
The newly named Rotary Peace Park, formerly the DeMolay Park, is being improved by the Lewiston Rotary Club as a way to serve the City of Lewiston, create a lasting legacy, and celebrate the Club’s 100 Year Anniversary.
“Come and join us as we break ground on the Peace Park in what we know will become a lasting gathering place and community asset”, said John Rusche, Lewiston Rotary Club President. “As is the mission of Rotary, our Club seeks to foster peace through the understanding that develops between individuals through shared experiences. We feel that improving the park is one way we can bring our community together.”
The Lewiston Rotary Club is raising funds and accepting donations to continue making improvements to the park including; building a shelter with room for 6-8 picnic tables to be located in the Southern portion of the park; building a playground with innovative equipment; and installing interpretive panels illuminating the park’s, and the region’s, geographic features. Other improvements include an upgraded path to the park from Snake River Avenue for ease of access.
Establishing the Rotary Peace Park is just one of the events the Lewiston Rotary Club is doing to celebrate its 100 Year Anniversary. Other upcoming events include the Rotary Peace Park Grand Opening this summer, the Bike Rodeo in September, and the 100 Year Gala Celebration in October.
The Lewiston Rotary Club is a service organization that is open to everyone and whose philanthropic efforts include providing scholarships for LCSC students, sponsoring the Lewiston Rotary Bike Rodeo, and funding support for the Snake River Community Clinic, the Idaho Foodbank, and the Salvation Army among others.
The Lewiston Rotary Club meets weekly on Wednesdays at noon for lunch at the Hells Canyon Grand Hotel, located at 621 21st Street, Lewiston. To learn more go to https://www.facebook.com/LewistonRotaryClub/.Public Invited to Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Rotary Peace Park
