(Colfax, WA) The 36-year-old Pullman man that was accused of killing his estranged wife inside her trailer on Military Hill in Pullman was convicted by a jury on Thursday.
Jacob Spray was convicted in Whitman County Court of Murder in the First Degree and Rape in the First Degree — in the case of the death of 25-year-old Jamie Spray that began on March 26, 2024. The verdict was reached by the jury after 4 hours of deliberation on Thursday. The family of the victim was present in the courtroom.
Police believed that Jamie was strangled. They also suspected that Jacob tried to set fire to the trailer.
As a result of the verdict, Spray faces 20-26.5 years in prison. “The Pullman Police Department worked tirelessly to learn what happened to the victim on the night of March 26, with help from the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team,” said Dan LeBeau, Chief Deputy Prosecutor with the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office. “Without their efforts and the cooperation of countless citizens this verdict could not have been reached. I will argue for the maximum penalty allowed by law pursuant this verdict.”
Retired Whitman County Judge Gary Libey, acting as Judge Pro Tern, set a hearing for March 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM to determine Spray’s sentence.
