Pullman Regional Hospital Sponsors January FREE Family Science Night

January 8, 2024

PULLMAN, WA- Pullman Regional Hospital’s Center for Learning & Innovation is sponsoring the January Family Science Night on Thursday, January 18 at Palouse Discovery Science Center, starting at 6pm. Families with children of all ages are invited to partake in exhibits, health-related activities, and explore Palouse Discovery Science Center free of charge.

Palouse Discovery Science Center’s EveryBODY Healthy exhibit is a lifelike hospital experience that provides an opportunity for children to transform into doctors and care providers and learn about the body through dramatic play and dress up. The newest addition to this exhibit is a life-size game of Operation, where children can learn about the body’s organs and functions while testing out their handeye coordination skills. This exhibit is sponsored by the Pullman Regional Hospital Center for Learning & Innovation and was designed and built in partnership with the Washington State University American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student group.

Attendees of the January FREE Family Science Night can meet Dr. Jonathan Lee, Pediatrician at Palouse Pediatrics, part of the Pullman Regional’s network of clinics. Dr. Lee is both an engineer and medical doctor- earning his undergraduate degree at California Institute of Technology in Electrical and Computer Engineering before attending medical school at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. He also serves as the Medical Innovation Director for Pullman Regional Hospital’s Center for Learning & Innovation.

Palouse Discovery Science Center was established in 1999 and has a mission to connect children of all ages to their families, communities, and the world beyond through interactive STEAM exploration. Family Science Nights provide an opportunity for families to take part in science center activities free of charge.

Palouse Discovery Science Center hosts rotating exhibits and learning spaces in addition to the EveryBODY Healthy exhibit, MoneyVille currency exploration, AR sand table and earthquake display, self-directed Art Studio, and Nanotechnology exhibit. The center has a membership-based admission system, though day passes are available for purchase, as well as group and party rentals. In addition to rotating exhibits, Palouse Discovery Science Center also hosts field trips, themed camps, classes, and activities throughout the year for children of all ages.

PDSC recently become the first certified sensory inclusive venue in the region. Sensory kits are available for check-out on any visit, and extended Sensory Friendly Times are offered on the first Wednesday of the month from 4:00-6:00p.
