Risch, Crapo Double Down Demanding Answers from Department of Education Amid Dangerous Increase in Antisemitic Behavior on College Campuses

Voice concerns for Jewish and Pro-Israel Students

WASHINGTON – As antisemitic behavior continues to escalate across college campuses, U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) are doubling down on their demands that the U.S. Secretary of Education provide information regarding the U.S. Department of Education’s efforts—or lack thereof—to ensure the safety of Jewish and Pro-Israel students. The Senators also reiterated that the department must ensure taxpayer dollars do not fund antisemitic activities on college campuses.
“Many Jewish and pro-Israel students have felt unsafe in their institutions of higher education, especially following Hamas’ attack on Israel,” wrote Risch and Crapo. “While we were already concerned about antisemitism on college campuses, the events of the last month have made it clear the Department owes both the Senate and the American people answers as to whether taxpayer dollars are in anyway funding these antisemitic programs, speakers, or activities. In addition, it owes parents an explanation for how it is protecting their kids and their freedom of speech and religion.”
Given the growing number and increased severity of antisemitic behavior following Hamas’ attack on Israel, Risch and Crapo are calling for an immediate response from Secretary Cardona.
