CLARKSTON – Asotin County Fire District # 1 fire crews attacked this season’s first wildland fire Saturday evening.
Asotin County Fire and Garfield County Fire District #1 were called around 8:30 p.m. to a wildland fire about 20 miles west of Clarkston on Knottgrass Road.
When fire crews arrived, an estimated 15 acres of rangeland on a steep hillside was burning. Fire crews and landowners attacked the fire by hand and had the fire contained in about an hour. Crews remained on scene for about 3 hours checking for hotspots.
Chief Hardin said with the help of Garfield County, firefighters were able to surround the fire quickly. Washington State DNR crews were on standby if needed and the City of Asotin Fire helped cover the Asotin County Station in case of other incidents.
There were no injuries reported with this fire and the fire remains under investigation.
