School Lunches no Longer Free for all Students

LEWISTON – For the past two years, the Lewiston School District has participated in the USDA food service program, Seamless Summer Option, which allowed them to provide free school meals to all students.  Funding for this program, authorized under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, is set to expire at the end of the current school year.

Beginning in the fall of the 2022-2023 school year, their food service program will be returning to the guidelines of the National School Lunch Program, where they will be required to count and claim meals based on student eligibility.  This return to normal operations will mean that school meals will no longer be free for all students.

The 2022-2023 Free and Reduced Price School Meal Application will be available beginning in August for households to apply for meal benefits for the upcoming school year.
