Wednesday, June 29 the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call requesting a welfare check on 41-year-old Aaron Peterson, who resides in Smelterville, Idaho. A patrol Sergeant responded & got no answer. After several attempts, the Sergeant started conversing with a female from inside the residence. The female would not allow the Sergeant who was now being assisted by the Kellogg Police Department, into the residence.
Kellogg Police Department assisted by holding the residence while the Sergeant applied for a search warrant to enter the residence to check the welfare of Mr. Peterson. Prior to Sergeant returning to the residence, the female inside exited the residence with a 4-month-old infant.
SCSD Sergeant, with the assistance of the Kellogg Police Department, executed the search warrant and located a deceased male in the residence. The Sergeant then returned to the courts and obtained another search warrant for the collection of evidence. The search warrant was executed and the scene was processed.
Deputies located the body of Peterson and released him to the coroner’s office to be transported to the medical examiner’s office for further investigation.
Stephanie Rena Paris was booked at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office on the charges of Murder, Failure to Report a dead body, and Resist and Obstruct. The case is still under further investigation at this time. Next of kin were notified.
The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Kellogg Police Department, District 2 Fire and EMS, Shoshone County Coroner’s Office, Shoshone County Prosecutors Office, and The Department of Health and Welfare for their assistance in this case.
