The Asotin County Blankenship Fire is 95 Percent Contained Today.

Asotin County Fire District #1 and City of Asotin firefighters were helping state mobilization crews continue to extinguish hot spots today.

Fire District Chief Noel Hardin said they are wanting to make sure this fire is completely sealed up today because there is a wind forecast for the next couple of days. He stated, “We have to get this fire completely out and be ready for the next storm and wind event in the forecast.”

About 40 firefighters from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Forest Service were on the scene today.

They are estimating complete containment by the end of today.

The lightning-caused fire started at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters worked the steep terrain until about 11 p.m. last night. 3 helicopters were dipping water out of the Snake River which stopped the forward progress of this fire.
