CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lewis-Clark State Athletics dominated the Cascade Conference Rize Laboratory Athlete of the Week honors this week with three winners. Cross country’s Geraldin Correa was voted the Runner of the Week, while golf’s Alexandra Schmidt and Jorgen Lie Viken were tabbed Golfers of the Week.
GERALDIN CORREA – WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Correa was the top non-NCAA Division I finisher at the LC State Invitational on Saturday, leading the Warrior women in 14th place (18:27) overall. The sophomore helped LC State to a fourth-place team finish with her career-best time in the 5k. Correa has finished in the top 15 of all three races this season.
This is the first weekly honor of Correa’s career.
The Warriors wrap up the regular season at Seattle Pacific’s NCAA DII Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 22.
|ALEXANDRA SCHMIDT – WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEKSchmidt was the top LC State finisher at the Ottawa Fall Invitational with a 10-over 226. The senior helped the Warriors battle through tough weather for a fourth-place finish as a team and shot the best three-round score of her career. This is the second weekly honor of Schmidt’s career and first this season.
|JORGEN LIE VIKEN – MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEKViken had a strong tournament at the Ottawa Fall Invitational with a 1-under 215 to tie for seventh. The senior matched par in the first and third rounds and shot a 1-under 71 in between. Making the feat more impressive, the second round was suspended midway through due to a dust storm making play nearly impossible. This is the third weekly honor of Viken’s career and first this season.
