Twin County United Way Provides Free Lice Kits and Feminine Hygiene Products to Area Children

August 27 2024

(LEWISTON, ID)– Twin County United Way is proud to support the health and well-being of school-aged children across Nez Perce and Asotin counties by providing free lice kits and period products to students in need, ensuring that every child has access to essential hygiene products.

As schools welcome back students for the new academic year, Twin County United Way recognizes the importance of providing resources that support students’ health and comfort. Head lice infestations and the lack of access to period products are common issues that can disrupt a child’s education and well-being. With these programs, we aim to remove these barriers and help students focus on their studies without unnecessary distractions.

Lice Free LCV

Head lice can spread quickly in school environments, causing discomfort and leading to missed school days. To combat this, we are offering free lice kits to families with school-aged children. Each kit includes a full Nix kit, lice combs, two laundry detergent pods, a garbage bag and an instructional brochure. Lice Free LCV program is sponsored by CHAS Health.

By providing these kits, we hope to empower parents and caregivers with the tools they need to address lice infestations promptly and effectively. Families in need of lice kits can contact Twin County United Way at 208-743-6594 or email [email protected]. Schools and community organizations interested in partnering with us to distribute and/or build kits are encouraged to reach out as well.

“For Her” Period Project

Menstrual hygiene should never be a barrier to education. Unfortunately, many students face challenges in accessing period products, leading to missed school days and a lack of participation in school activities. To support menstrual equity, we are offering free period products delivered to the child’s school each month that can include daily pads, overnight pads, liners, tampons, cleansing wipes, menstrual cups, period underwear, heating pads and deodorant.  The products are chosen online by the student and every kit includes positive affirmation cards and chocolate.

These products are available through Twin County United Way’s website www.tcuw.org/for-her. The “For Her” project is sponsored by Catalyst Medical Center, TriState Health, CHAS Health and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
