(Lapwai, ID) On January 7th, at approximately 8:00 PM, the Lewiston Police Department (LPD) received a report of a stolen Toyota Tacoma in Lewiston. LPD immediately began a search for the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, a Nez Perce County (NPC) Deputy located the stolen Tacoma and attempted a traffic stop in the Lewiston Orchards. However, the vehicle fled southbound on Thain Road at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit continued towards Tammany Creek and Webb Road. NPC requested assistance from the Nez Perce Tribal Police to deploy Stop Sticks. A Tribal Police officer quickly positioned at Webb Ridge Road and successfully deployed Stop Sticks, disabling one of the suspect vehicle’s tires. The vehicle slowed and additional Tribal Police officers assisted. The vehicle stopped at Sandhill Lane, off White Road.
Upon stopping, both suspects exited the vehicle and fled into a nearby field. Tribal Police initiated a brief foot pursuit and successfully apprehended both individuals. The driver, Matthew Morris, was taken into custody by NPC Deputies, while the passenger, Jasmine McCormack, was taken into custody by Tribal Police. Both suspects were arrested on active warrants and face additional charges. A small case of narcotics and equipment was in the Toyota after a brief vehicle search.
