U of I to host Idaho Battle of the Chefs with celebrity chef Justin Warner and ‘Crave TV’ filming on-site

October 31, 2024

(Moscow, ID) University of Idaho will host the second annual Idaho Battle of the Chefs Wednesday, Nov. 6, bringing together top culinary talent from U of I, Boise State University and Idaho State University. The competition will be held at U of I’s Moscow campus, featuring celebrity chef Justin Warner, winner of “Food Network Star” Season 8 and host of Marvel’s “Eat the Universe.” Warner is known for his inventive cooking and use of local ingredients and will host and join the judging panel.

The popular cooking show “Crave TV” will film and interview chefs on-site with hosts Chandler Baird and Chef Adam Hegsted. The show, which airs throughout the Northwest, highlights restaurant visits, recipe breakdowns and regional flavors

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase not only the culinary talent in Idaho but also the rich local ingredients that make these dishes special,” said Cami McClure, associate vice president of Auxiliary Services at U of I. “We’re thrilled to have ‘Crave TV’ bring this event to a wider audience.”

Executive chefs from each university will compete in a head-to-head culinary battle, showcasing skills, creativity and flair using local ingredients. Regional suppliers will fuel the competition, including ingredients from the Palouse provided by Simplot, 300 pounds of beef from Double R Ranch and spices from Spiceology.

The event will culminate in a live judging panel at 4:30 p.m. at The Eatery at Vandal Village, during which Warner and other judges will evaluate the chefs’ creations and crown the winner. Only U of I employees and students can attend in person, but everyone else is encouraged to watch the live stream at uidaho.edu/live.

This is an opportunity for Idaho communities to witness culinary excellence, support local chefs and embrace regional flavors. The winning university will earn a trophy and campus bragging rights. Thanks to coverage by “Crave TV,” viewers across the Northwest will experience the event’s highlights and behind-the-scenes stories.
