U of I’s Weekly Mindfulness Programming Opens to the Public

MOSCOW — The community is invited to join University of Idaho students and employees for weekly 20-minute drop-in meditation online beginning at noon, Wednesday, September 6, and running through the semester. The sessions are available at https://uidaho.zoom.us/j/344259873.
“Weekly meditation changes the brain, improves our attitudes, supports mental health, and shores up the body against stress,” said Jamie Derrick, professor and certified mindfulness teacher at U of I.
Derrick developed uiMind as a weekly meditation that is peaceful, welcoming, and offers a midweek stress reset. The sessions are offered on Zoom so people can attend from the comfort of their office or home. No experience is needed. If you are unable to attend the weekly meditations, uiMind also has a library of recorded practices on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-768831280.
“Through my research on the impact of her meditation classes, I found that with weekly meditation, self-compassion, and well-being increase fivefold even when schedules and life demands remain stressful,” Derrick said. “And participants improve habits — better sleep, healthier eating, less drinking and stronger connections to friends.”
