BAHA CALIFORNIA SUR, Mexico – Lewis-Clark State Volleyball’s sophomore outside hitter Grecia Ung Enriquez is representing Mexico at the 2022 Women’s U21 Pan American Cup. The native of Sonora, Mexico, earned a spot on the U21 Mexican National Team after being scouted in a state qualifier in April.
“Such an exciting moment for Grecia. We are so excited and happy for her,” Head Coach Shaun Pohlman said. “How neat is it that we have a player playing on the international stage at such a high level? A lot had to happen for her to participate and make this happen and we are grateful for the support our faculty has provided in working with Grecia in April so she could do school and watch a dream come true. We are excited to tune in to watch some matches.”
In her first season with the Warriors, Ung Enriquez dazzled from the start. The First-Team All-Cascade Conference and AVCA All-Northwest Region selection quickly made a name for herself with her top-spin serve and hard-hit kills. She tallied 12 kills and three service aces in her first match, and continued to be one of the Warriors’ top performers all year. After missing a few matches at the start of conference play, she regained her momentum and averaged 2.70 kills per set.
Ten teams are competing in the event hosted by the NORCECA Volleyball Confederation. In Mexico’s first match of the tournament, Ung Enriquez tallied nine kills against Honduras as part of a 3-0 victory.
