Kansas City, Mo. – Cascade Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year Jorgen Lie Viken will represent LC State at the 2023 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship in Mesa, Ariz. Though the 21st-ranked Warrior team narrowly missed the cut, the senior will travel to nationals to compete for an individual title May 16-19.
This is the second year in a row that a men’s golfer has earned a spot at nationals as an individual for LC State, with Kristof Panke doing so last season. Viken will travel to Arizona with Cascade Conference Men’s Golf Coach of the Year Zach Anderson to compete in the field of 156 golfers. 29 teams and 11 individuals make up the field.
“Awesome to see Jorgen get a chance to play for a national championship,” Anderson said. “He has had an amazing season so far and it is good to see his hard work pay off.”
Viken is ranked No. 15 individually by Golfstat and led CCC in conference scoring average at 72.1 strokes. The senior earned back-to-backs medalist honors when he won the LCSC Warrior Spring Invitational and UPS Spring Invitational in the same week. He was voted the CCC Golfer of the Week three times and once the NAIA National Golfer of the Week.
