Warrior Dance Makes History at First Competitions

Alisha Alexander | Assistant Athletics Director-Sports Information

FREMONT, Neb. – History was made with a two-minute, 13-second routine on Friday when LC State Dance made its competitive debut at the Midland Invitational. The Warriors competed in the five-team competition before taking on Midland (Neb.) and Hope International (Calif.) in a tri-meet later in the evening.

After both performances, the Warriors walked away with a newfound sense of confidence.

“During warm-up I had a feeling that the team had shifted to a higher intensity,” coach Christa Davis said. “During the performance, each member of the LC State Dance team was so focused and danced so fully. Execution, formations, and unity were all strong but genuine heartfelt expressions brought many in the audience to their feet on the final beat of the music. We came in as underdogs, but I’d be surprised if one person in the crowd views us that way anymore.”

LC State placed fourth out of five teams at the Midland Invitational with a score of 56.33 to finish ahead of HIU. The Warriors excelled in the uniformity category with scores of 7.5, 8.0, and 8.0. LC also found success in performance impression with scores of 6.8, 7.0, and 7.0.

The Warriors were exceptional once again in uniformity (7.7, 7.8) and performance impression (7.0, 7.2) in the tri-meet with Midland and HIU. LC State totaled 56.15 points in the three-team event.

“We will continue working to gain additional skills in turning and other dance techniques, which some have spent years developing,” Davis explained. “However, I have not seen a group of women who have gained more technical strength in three months in my lifetime.”
