Warrior Men’s Tennis Wins Home Opener Over Whitman

Randi Isbelle | LC State Sports Information Intern

LEWISTON – The Lewis-Clark State Men’s Tennis team defeated NCAA Division III opponent Whitman College in the first home tennis contest of the season at the LCSC Tennis Center on Saturday.
The win improved the Warriors record to 1-2 on the season.
“It was nice to see the team perform with focus at home. Playing at home is fun and comfortable but it can also be extremely distracting,” coach Kai Fong said. “Our doubles are improving with each match and the players are accepting they may not have a consistent partner week in and week out.”
Matus Rusnak and Austin Swing led the Warriors in a clean sweep of doubles action. Rusnak and Swing were able to earn a victory in No. 1 doubles versus Artem Manov and Charles Rush 6-3. Itaru Kikuchi and Nell Rollin won in No. 2 doubles 6-1 and Malte Sommer and Rafael Bonnet de Larbogne won in No. 3 doubles 6-3.
Kikuchi and Rusnak both won hard fought matches in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, by the same 6-4, 6-4 result. Austin Swing got past Charles Rush in No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-3. Bonnet de Larbogne in No. 4 singles and Alvaro Camino in No. 6 singles earned victories.
“We are going to face Whitman four times this year,” Fong said. “Both of us have large rosters so these are opportunities to provide four valuable match experiences to everyone.”
