Warrior Tennis Defeats Midway to Close out Road Trip

Lexington, KY. – Lewis-Clark State Tennis earned victories in both men’s and women’s action to finish the Kentucky road trip with back-to-back wins. The Warrior teams each defeated Midway (Ky.) 6-1.

The Warrior women improved to 12-10 while the men moved to 8-11 on the season.

“The men and women played with a lot of focus,” assistant coach Ryan LaPlante said. “Some of our players were pushed very hard but were able to overcome adversity.”

Midway is coached by Adam Malik, who was Head Coach Kai Fong’s doubles partner in the 1985 Southeast Asian games in Bangkok, Thailand.

MEN: (RV) LC State def. Midway (Ky.) 6-1

LC kept the same three pairings in men’s doubles and completed the road trip 12-0 in doubles action

Dan Felker and Maksim Matyrnyi won in No. 1 doubles over Aditya Roy Chowdhury and Paul Wamba 6-3. Declan Townsend teamed with Cade Edwards for a win in No. 2 doubles and Itaru Kikuchi and Daniel Tevez won in No. 3 doubles, both by a score of 6-2.

Matyrnyi was pushed to a third-set super-tiebreaker before earning a No. 5 singles win over Daniele Trentin 6-3, 3-6, 11-9. Tevez fought back from a first-set defeat to win in No. 6 singles 4-6, 7-6(4), 11-9. Felker earned a No. 1 singles victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Chowdhury.

WOMEN: LC State def. Midway (Ky.) 6-1

Yelena Kim teamed with Catherine Khardina to win in No. 2 doubles versus Ana Larreal and Isabella McKinney 6-2. Bonolo Molefe and Alexis Maison were victorious in No. 3 doubles 6-2.

Khardina made quick work of Larreal in No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Maria Eduarda Santos da Silva was pushed to a first-set tiebreaker before earning a No. 5 singles win 7-6(3), 6-2. Maison lost just one game in No. 6 singles against Caitlin Wright en route to a victory.
