Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Season with Loss to Montana State

Alisha Alexander | LC State Sports Information Director

BOISE – LC State Women’s Tennis opened the 2023 portion of the schedule with 4-0 loss to NCAA Division I Montana State on Friday. Anne Mathema, Heidi Moyo, Yelena Kim and April Buckingham each made their LC State debuts in the match.

“These matches will get us tougher for playing on the road as we go through the season,” Head Coach Kai Fong said. “Everyone will get at least one singles match on this trip since it is very early in the season.”

Kim teamed up with Beatriz Lambru in the top doubles spot in her LC State debut, and the duo battled before falling 6-4. Moyo and Bonolo Molefe took on MSU’s No. 2 doubles team and fell 6-1.

Montana State took the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches to close out the contest 4-0. Before the match ended, Kim was winning her second set 4-2 in an effort to even her No. 1 singles match 1-1.
