The U.S. Department of Energy awarded Washington State University more than $100,000 to enhance its research on nuclear reactors. The funding will support the purchase of new backup reactor power detectors as well as the fabrication of their housings. It is part of a series of improvements underway at WSU’s Nuclear Science Center including a new coating for the reactor pool.
WSU’s Dodgen Research Facility on the Pullman campus is home to a 1 megawatt TRIGA Reactor, which stands for Training, Research, Isotopes, and General Atomic. The Nuclear Science Center aims to advance fundamental and applied nuclear science research and education at WSU. The center and its reactor represent a unique resource for university researchers.
