BLAINE, Wash. – The Lewis-Clark State Men’s and Women’s Golf teams will take on the rest of the Cascade Conference on Monday when they compete in the three-day CCC Golf Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Loomis Trail.
“Excited to be coming into the postseason with some momentum on both the men’s and women’s side,” coach Zach Anderson said.
The winner of the CCC tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament. The regular season champion will also be determined based on the best head-to-head record in the regular season conference tournaments, including the conference championships.
All-conference honors are awarded to the top 10 players with the lowest stroke average in conference play.
On the men’s side, the (RV) Warriors are in second place with a team average of 297.6. LC only trails British Columbia. No. 6 UBC shot a team average 286.0 on the season and won all three conference tournaments this season.
“The men have started to find their footing as of late,” Anderson said. “With a win in Salem and a solid home event, they are trending at the right time.”
Five Warriors are in contention for the 10 All-Conference spots going into the conference tournament. Alex Navarro is in fifth with a nine-round average of 73.7 on the season. Bryden Brown, who has won the individual title in the last three tournaments he has participated in, is one stroke behind Navarro in sixth place with an average score of 73.8. Oscar Behle is currently ninth with an average of 74.8.
“Bryden has been on a tear, and I think that he caused the other guys to see that we are capable of anything,” Anderson said. “Postseason is here, and we are ready to jump at the opportunity.”
The (RV) LC State women are in third place after three conference tournaments. The Warriors have an average team score of 319.7. Two-time defending CCC champion and 20223 NAIA Champion No. 1 British Columbia has a large lead at 304.8 and No. 19 Oregon Tech is in second place at 318.3.
“The women are coming off a solid tournament where, other than a small stretch of holes in the second round, they hung with UBC,” Anderson said.
Two Warriors are currently inside the top 10 as they head to Blaine, Wash. Deana Caruso has averaged a round score of 77.8 on the season, good for fifth place. Kyla Currie is in seventh place with an average of 78.7.
“Kyla and Deana are hungry for their senior postseason,” Anderson said. “Excited to see what they and the rest of the team can do.”
Dallis Shockey is in 15th place after the first three tournaments with an average round score of 81.5. Shockey is 1.2 strokes per round behind Maiya Baker of Oregon Tech for the final spot for All-conference honors.
British Columbia will host the three-day tournament that will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with 18 holes being played each day.
