ASOTIN COUNTY—Asotin County’s limited yard waste burning period is open through December 15. Residents may burn yard waste like small tree limbs and dry garden waste between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. All fires must be extinguished and without smoke by 4:00 p.m.

Residents should remember:

  • Residents can burn limited yard waste including small tree branches and dry garden waste—NO LEAVES or GRASS. The goal is hot fires that produce little to no smoke.
  • Fires can be no larger than 4’x4’ and must be at least 50 feet away from any structure.
  • Burning treated lumber or demo lumber is prohibited.
  • Burn barrels are illegal in Washington State.
  • If a fire is producing a lot of smoke and there are complaints, residents will be told to extinguish their fires.
  • Be aware of regulations to avoid fines. Citations can range from $200 up to $10,000 depending on the violation.
  • Always check the burn line at 509-243-2002 to make sure it is a burn day. Burning is shut down occasionally for air quality issues.

A complete list of rules is available at the Asotin County Fire District #1 station or the Building and Planning Department in Asotin.
