Big Marks Give LC State Strong Start at Conference Meet

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Warrior Track and Field opened competition at the 2024 Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, on Friday with 11 All-Cascade Conference honors. Madigan Kelly brought home the first title of the weekend with a win in the 100m hurdles.

Action concludes on Saturday at the CCC Championships. The meet also serves as the final opportunity for athletes to qualify for outdoor nationals.

THE WOMEN

The Warrior women collected six All-Cascade Conference honors and Kelly earned her second straight CCC title in the 100m hurdles to highlight day one. The junior ran an automatic-qualifying time for nationals at 14.11 to win the title. Jennah Carpenter also earned conference honors in the event with a third-place time of 15.10. Sara Hathaway was 19th (17.40).

Emily Collins ran a B standard time of 57.23 to place second in the CCC in the 400m. The all-conference mark is the fourth-fastest time ever by a Warrior. Senior Anika Grogan also earned All-Cascade Conference recognition with a third-place finish with a season-best time of 57.73.

Abigail Gorton earned the first all-conference honors of her career with a third-place finish in the 10,000m. The junior finished the race with a time of 42:48.39.

The 4x100m relay squad of Collins, Grogan, Kelly and Karissa Lindner just missed out on All-CCC honors but did set the school record with an A standard time of 47.19 to place fourth.

Haylee Appleford and Grace Osborne earned top-10 finishes in the discus throw with Appleford in fifth (38.78m) and Osborne in seventh (37.05m). Osborne was 12th int he hammer throw (39.43m) and Appleford was 20th (33.55m). Emberlynn Mack was sixth in the pole vault (2.80m).

Grace Tiegs led the Warriors in the 1,500m with an 11th-place finish (4:53.55) and Aubree Williams was 12th (4:57.75).

THE MEN

The LC State men’s 4x100m relay team of Jedidiah Barnaby, Jordan Castillo, London Kirk and Preston Cooper finished second to earn All-CCC accolades. The group ran a time of 41.44. Kirk went on to place second in the 400m with an A standard time of 47.30 to earn All-CCC. Carter Gordon was 16th (50.86).

Griffen Parsells earned conference accolades with a third-place finish in the 1,500m. He ran a time of 3:56.90 and Kobe Wessels was sixth (3:58.90). Ike Hopper was third in the 110m hurdles for All-CCC honors with a time of 15.56. Ian Gardom was fifth (16.43).

Trenton Johnson placed third in the long jump to capture All-CCC honors with a PR of 6.82m. The mark is third-best in LC State history. Freshman James Bogdanowicz cleared a career-best height of 4.40m to finish fifth in the pole vault.

Sam Weller had a big PR in the hammer throw and joined the LC State record book in the event. He threw 44.98m, fourth all-time at LC, to place eighth. Tanner Beltz-Childs was 14th (40.04m).

Freshman Keith Uitdewilligen placed sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:07.20. Brycen Brown was ninth (10:19.55). Clay Shumaker ran a PR time of 33:59.85 to lead LC in the 10,000m. Shumaker, Connor Alexander (34:07.41), Brycen Kempton (34:14.48) and Alexander Fry (34:23.27) finished 11th-14th, respectively.
