Accidental Death up the Big Salmon

On March 20, 2024, at approximately 12:52 AM, Idaho County Dispatch received a 911 call advising of a 28 year-old male who had been hit with a tree while cutting firewood. They were up the Big Salmon in the Allison Creek area and were transporting the patient to Riggins to meet the ambulance. The calling party advised dispatch the male was not conscious but still had a pulse.

 

The Riggings Ambulance was dispatched and met the calling party with the male on Main Street in Riggins. The Riggins Ambulance began life saving measures and requested Life Flight be dispatched. At approximately 1:11 AM, Riggins Ambulance advised dispatch that life saving measures were being discontinued and to cancel Life Flight.

 

Idaho County Deputies along with the Idaho County Coroner responded. Throughout the morning and day they investigated the incident, which was approxiamatly 6 miles up French Creek Road. It was concluded that the male, Tyrel Walker of New Meadows, Idaho, had fallen a tree and was subsequently hit in the head with a different tree. Tyrel’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a falling tree.
