Animal Rescue Says the LC Valley Currently has a ‘Puppy Crisis’

January 15, 2025

(Lewiston, ID) The Idaho Animal Rescue Network says there is currently a “puppy crisis” in our region. The rescue says their organization and others in the area are being overwhelmed with unwanted puppies.

IARN’s Director, Jenna Redheart, says the organization is currently supporting close to 60 puppies (both in and out of their direct care) and the problem is showing no signs of slowing down. “I went to a home last night with two litters of newborn puppies,” said Redheart. “We desperately need puppy food, both large-breed specific and regular puppy food.”

Redheart says dumping of puppies has also been surging in recent weeks. “If you or someone you know currently has an unwanted litter of puppies and needs assistance, please work with us to help the puppies. We can offer pet food, vaccines, puppy supplies, etc. Once old enough, we are happy to help you place the puppies into good homes. All we ask is that you agree to work with us to get your Momma dog spayed (at no cost to you). This is for those truly in need and are struggling with caring for unwanted litters,” said Redheart.

Puppy food donations can be dropped off at 2021 Ripon Avenue in Lewiston. The rescue also has a wishlist posted on Amazon at this link – https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2D2HCUHIZTW4U

“We cannot take in every litter. But we can help ease the burden on owners. Message us or email admin@IdahoRescue.org for assistance,” said Redheart.
