Atkin Breaks British 3,000m Record

Alisha Alexander | LC State Sports Information Director

BOSTON – Sam Atkin did his fair share of breaking records during his time at LC State, and the Olympian is not done yet. The LC State Athletics Hall of Famer and member of Team Great Britain bested Mo Farah’s 3,000m record at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday.

Atkin, a four-time national champion for the Warriors, clocked a time of 7:32.62 in his first competition since August of 2022. The time is the fastest in UK history, indoors or out. He knocked 15 seconds off of his previous indoor personal-best in the process.

Atkin finished second in the race behind American Yared Nuguse. Nuguse set the American record at the meet.
