Attorney General-Elect Nick Brown Announces Key Job Openings on His Senior Staff

SEATTLE — Attorney General-Elect Nick Brown announced today that his transition team is accepting applications for five senior positions in his office: First Assistant Attorney General, Communications Director, Policy Director, Legislative Director and Chief Human Resources Officer.

“I am committed to building a diverse and experienced leadership team that will work alongside me to realize the commitments I made to the voters during my campaign: to uphold and enforce our laws, to stand strong for our shared values, and to protect our communities,” Brown said. “Our state is blessed with so many talented people with a deep commitment to public service, and I encourage all those who are interested and feel they could contribute to apply.”

The First Assistant Attorney General will provide the Attorney General with strategic guidance on complex legal matters and will serve as Counsel to the Attorney General. A full job description is available here. The application window for this position closes at 5 p.m. on December 6.

The Communications Director will be tasked with implementing the overall communications strategy in the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), including developing relationships with media contacts, strategizing social media messaging, and engaging with communities across the state. The Policy Director should demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting justice and improving the lives of the people of Washington State, and will lead all of the AGO’s policy and programs and initiatives on behalf of the Attorney General. The Legislative Director will lead on legislative strategy and advocacy for the office, and will oversee a team of legislative analysts responsible for development and promotion of the AGO’s legislative agenda. The Chief Human Resources Officer will lead on the AGO’s human resources strategy, and ensure that the AGO attracts, develops, supports and retains top talent. This person will foster an environment that supports the people within the AGO and advances the office’s mission, vision, and values. A full job description is available here. The announcement of these job openings follow the incoming Attorney General’s selection of David Postman as his Chief of Staff and Laura Watson as Chief Deputy Attorney General. Postman is a former Senior Advisor, Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Governor Jay Inslee, and recently stepped down as Chair of the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board; he previously served as Chief Political Reporter at the Seattle Times. Watson is moving over to the AGO from her current position as director of the Department of Ecology.
