Auditorium Chamber Music Series Presents Jupiter String Quartet in Concert Jan. 25

MOSCOW, Idaho — Jan. 18, 2024 — The Auditorium Chamber Music Series presents the Jupiter String Quartet in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the University of Idaho Administration Auditorium on campus in Moscow.

The Jupiter Quartet, described by The New Yorker as an ensemble of “technical finesse and rare expressive maturity,” is composed of violinists Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel and cellist Daniel McDonough. The Jupiter Quartet has been performing together since 2001, including at some of the world’s most renowned concert halls, and has been the quartet-in-residence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign since 2012.

The award-winning ensemble will perform an assortment of selections from the late 18th century through to the present day: Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 8 in E minor, Op. 59 No. 2 (1808), W. A. Mozart’s String Quartet No. 21 in D Major, K. 575 (1789) and Michi Wiancko’s “To Unpathed Waters, Undreamed Shores” (2020) — a work written specifically for the Jupiter String Quartet.

Tickets, which are $25 for the general public, $20 for seniors, $10 for U of I students and free for children 12 and under, can be purchased at  uitickets.com, as well as at the Bruce M. Pitman Center box office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and at the door an hour before the concert begins (card only, no cash).

Since 1986, the Auditorium Chamber Music Series has presented some of the world’s finest small ensembles in the beautiful neo-gothic auditorium in the heart of U of I’s campus. The music series will wrap up its 37th season at 7:30 p.m. April 9 with a performance by the Lysander Piano Trio.
