GRANGEVILLE – Crews have been battling the Billy Creek Fire since Wednesday, July 3. The fire burning along the Snake River corridor near the Idaho-Washington border is estimated at 3,169 acres and 33% containment.

Fire management was turned over to Brent Olson, Incident Commander, Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team #1 yesterday morning. Throughout the day, structure protection resources will be patrolling and monitoring structures along the Snake River corridor.  Firefighters will monitor the north and south fire perimeter above the Snake River and respond appropriately if they observe any hotspots. Very little smoke was visible yesterday across the fire area except for residual smoke from small firing operations from hotshot crews securing sections of the fire perimeter.  Along the fire’s eastern edge, crews will continue executing a full suppression strategy using direct attack, hot spotting, and cold trailing tactics.   Fire crews will also conduct suppression repair work in the upper elevations of the fire area.

There are currently 150 personnel,  two dozers; one helicopter, four hand crews, and one jet boat working on suppression.
