Alisha Alexander | LC State Sports Information Director

ASHLAND, Ore. – Christian Bothwell became the first Warrior in program history to win the conference title in the decathlon on Friday at the Cascade Conference Multi Championships, presented by U.S. Bank. The senior topped the leaderboard after 10 events for a total of 6,271 points.

Justin Krabbenhoft also earned All-Cascade Conference status with a third-place finish after tallying a career-best 6,111 points. Caleb Moore had a career weekend with a personal-best 6,002 points to place fifth. All three earned points for LC State heading into the conference meet May 12-13.

“Outstanding day for our athletes over in Ashland,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “To finish first, third and fifth in this meet, and for all three of them to have more than 6,000 points, is an amazing finish as a group. It says a lot about their commitment to what they’re doing and the great coaching that they’re getting from Coach (Kurtis) Bonner and the rest of the event-specialist coaches.

“In a sport and event where there is literally a multitude of opportunities for ups and downs, these guys really came through with great efforts with a lot of ups and less downs,” Collins added. “There is definitely still room for improvement in all of them, but it was great to see them come through with a great competitive attitude and the results to show for it.”

Bothwell finished second in both the javelin (45.04m) and 1,500m (4:52.06) to solidify his win. He was third in the 110m hurdles (16.31), fourth in the discus (32.82m) and fifth in the pole vault (3.90m).

Krabbenhoft turned in career-best marks in the discus (29.44m), pole vault (3.70m) and javelin (40.17m). His highest finish on the day was third in the 1,500m (5:09.52) after starting the day fifth in the 110m hurdles (16.67).

Moore tallied two wins throughout the second day of the meet with top-marks in the discus (34.53m) and pole vault (4.40m). He was second in the 110m hurdles (16.30) and had PRs in the javelin (43.89m) and 1,500m (5:12.82).
