SALEM, Ore. – For the second week in a row, Bryden Brown earned an individual title in a playoff. The sophomore led the LC State Men’s Golf team to a victory at the Willamette Valley Cup at the Creekside Golf Club. The Warrior women finished in second.

THE MEN

Brown scored four birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 13 and 16 and an eagle on No. 4 en route to a 2-under, 70. Preston Lightle of Willamette recorded the round of the tournament going 6-under, 66 with seven birdies and a bogey to force a playoff. For the second consecutive tournament, the Moscow, Idaho, native won in the playoff.

“Bryden’s game is really coming around,” Head Coach Zach Anderson said. “Really proud of the way he has battled these past two weeks.”

Alex Navarro shot an even-72 for the second consecutive day to finish in a tie for sixth. Luke West finished just outside the top 10 with a 4-over, 76 final round.

LC State finished the tournament 2-under, 574, as the only team to shoot under par for the tournament. The Warriors held off a Sunday charge from Whitworth for a seven-stroke victory.

“Guys battled today to secure the win,” Anderson said. “We didn’t have our best stuff today, but found a way to hold on down the stretch. This was a great win for this young group.”

THE WOMEN

Kyla Currie bounced back after a rough first round to shoot a 4-over, 76 to finish in the top 10 in a tie for seventh. Currie moved up eight spots on the final day with birdies on Nos. 9 and 17.

Dallis Shockey took home 15th place with a 10-over, 82 final round. Shockey earned a birdie on No. 17. Deana Caruso moved up three spots on the final day with a round of 81.

“The women had another up and down day, but secured second place,” Anderson said. “A great stretch for them as they continue to learn how to handle tournament situations.”

As a team, the Warriors had the second-best round of the tournament, shooting a collective 321. LC State finished in second place with a score of 643 and concluded with a 20-stroke advantage over third place Whitman. George Fox scored back-to-back rounds of 296 to win the tournament by 51 strokes.
