Burst Sprinkler Pipe Causes Flooding at LCSC Student Union Building

At 7:20pm Lewiston Fire Department was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm activation at the LCSC Student Union Building. While enroute, units received reports that there was smoke in the building and the alarm was upgraded for a commerical structure fire.

Upon arrival, units met with LCSC Security and were advised that there was water flowing in the building. After investigation, initial crews identified that a sprinkler pipe in the attic had burst due to the freezing weather, there was no smoke. The sprinkler system was shut off and LCSC maintenance staff was called to the scene. Several inches of water were in the upper floor near the radio studio. Maintenance crews responded and began clean up.

Lewiston FD responded with 2 engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Medic Unit and 2 Chiefs. Clarkston FD also responded

with 1 Engine. Several other calls were handled during this time by off-duty firefighters that were called back in.

Estimates on the damage to the building and contents will take some time to investigate.
