(Lewiston, ID) The No. 23 LC State Women’s Golf team sits fifth as a team after the first round of the Thunderbird Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club. Chase Caruso currently leads the Warriors in a tie for 13th as an individual after the best round of her career.

The Warriors shot 315 as a team and are four strokes back of fourth-place Southern Oregon. No. 2 British Columbia holds an eight-stroke lead on No. 16 Oregon Tech for the team lead.

“The women battled in the elements today,” Head Coach Zach Anderson said. “It rained for a good bit of their round, but they stuck it out as best they could. We struggled with consistency at times, but overall there were more positives than negatives. We will move into tomorrow and try to move up a few spots.”

Caruso birdied her second hole of the day and was consistent throughout the lowest round of her collegiate career. After a 2-over front nine, the sophomore was 3-over on the back for a 5-over, 77 on the day. She is one stroke ahead of teammates Isabella Barquet and Jane Barry who are tied for 18th after matching 6-over, 78s.

Junior Dallis Shockey is tied for 32nd after an up-and-down round. She shot a 10-over, 82 for her first 18 holes. Freshman Giulia Belfontali is tied for 38th, one stroke behind Shockey, with a score of 83.
