City of Lewiston Announces Downtown Road Closures, Resumes 21st Street Fiberseal Project

LEWISTON – From March 11th to March 15th, there will be road closures and traffic detours near the new Nez Perce County Courthouse construction site due to ongoing construction activities.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • 12th Street will be fully closed from Main Street to Vern Lane (highlighted in green on the map) and partially closed to through traffic from Vern Lane to Idaho Street (highlighted in yellow on the map).
  • F Street will be fully closed from 12th Street to the alley between City Hall and the State of Idaho office building (as highlighted in blue on the map) and partially closed to through traffic from the alley to 11th Street (as highlighted in purple on the map).
  • The bus stop located along 12th Street, on the east side of City Hall, will not be accessible while the road is closed. Riders are requested to wait on the sidewalk along Idaho Street, in front of the Idaho Department of Labor building (highlighted in orange on the map). Riders should kindly wave to the driver to ensure they’re not missed.

  • Parking will not be available in front of City Hall along F Street nor on the east side street. The utility bill drop box on the east side of City Hall will be accessible by foot only. Parking options include the south parking lot of City Hall and designated open streets. Handicap parking and ADA access are available on the south side of City Hall.
  • The Lewiston Police Department lobby will be closed. Due to the closure, they will not be taking in-person police reports and fingerprinting will be unavailable. If a police report is necessary, please call the non-emergency phone number (208-746-0171) and an officer will respond. There’s also an option to file certain police reports online, here: https://www.cityoflewiston.org/709/ONLINE-CRIME-REPORT. This online form is to be completed for incidents that are not in progress, involve property crimes, and the value of item(s) is less than $1,000.00. For fingerprinting, during this period, contact the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office at 208-799-3131 to schedule an appointment for this service.

The roadway preservation project on 21st Street, between 7th Avenue and Nez Perce Grade, will resume next week. After commencing work in September 2023 and completing pavement patching and stormwater manholes before winter suspension, VSS International is gearing up to continue the project.

  • Survey Crew On-Site: On March 11th and 12th, a survey crew will be on site for constitution staking.
  • Construction Resumes: Starting March 13th, construction will resume, beginning with the reconstruction of pedestrian ramps and sidewalk infill.
  • Hours of Operation: Construction hours are generally between 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • Pedestrian Ramp Construction: The construction will start on the west side of the road at 8th Street and progress south to 18th Street, then continue on the east side of the road and progress north. This phase is expected to be completed in May.
  • Final Phase: The final phase, including fiberseal, is slated for completion by mid-June 2024. The fiberseal installation is currently planned for night construction.

Please note that, as with all construction projects, delays may occur due to unforeseen conditions. The City appreciates the public’s cooperation, patience, and understanding as it works to improve infrastructure.
