Clarkston DECA’s 21st Annual 4th Grade Career Development Conference

CLARKSTON — On the morning of Friday, November 4, 2022, approximately two hundred local 4th-grade students from the Clarkston School District, Holy Family Catholic School, and Cornerstone Christian School will be joining us for the 21st annual Career Development Conference.

This event is hosted by Clarkston DECA, held in the Clarkston High School auditorium, and is open to the public. The conference aims to teach 4th graders about entrepreneurship, different career sectors, creating a basic business plan, and what it looks like to run a successful local business.

Prior to the conference, the coordinators of this event Greta Boreson, Sophie Henderson, and Maddie Walkup worked with the students to educate them and help them design a business they could potentially open. The 4th-grade students could work by themselves on their project or with up to two other partners. Other than the coordinators, the 4th-grade students received help from teachers, parents, and other DECA chapter members.

Students will be selected for awards categorically by the career sectors they learned. Such as “best in healthcare”, “best in technology”, “best in retail” etc. All students who created a business will receive a certificate, and those that win will receive a medal. At the conference, DECA members and the fourth-grade students will attend workshops hosted by local business leaders like Brian McKarcher (Living Waters Landscaping) and Randi Kilcup (Inland Cellular- Marketing Manager).

Parents, family members, and members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend the conference.

Auditorium – Opening: 9:15-9:30 a.m.
