Company Proposed Controversial Wind Farm Near Kamiak Butte Hosting Moderated Information Session Next Month

Evan Ellis – Pullman News

(Pullman, WA) The company behind the controversial proposal to build and operate a wind farm near Kamiak Butte North of Pullman will be hosting a public information session next month.

Steelhead Americas out of Portland wants to build 45 wind turbines on property leased from private landowners near the National Natural Landmark.  The proposal has drawn strong opposition from a large coalition of local citizens.  Save the Palouse delivered a petition with over 3,500 signatures opposing the project to the Whitman County Commissioners last week.  The commissioners placed a moratorium on new wind turbines two days later.  The six-month moratorium will allow the county to update its regulations on wind farms.  Steelhead Americas hasn’t applied yet to Whitman County for its project called Harvest Hills.

According to a brief post on the Harvest Hills Facebook page the company will host a “moderated information session” at Washington State University.  The public session is on Tuesday, February 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Lewis Alumni Centre.  People interested in attending need to RSVP here https://speak4.app/lp/fi012sta/?ts=1736447758

According to the post, Steelhead Americas is looking for input to shape a project that reflects the values and needs of our community for a more resilient future.

This is the second time that the company has engaged the public about its controversial plan.  Steelhead Americas held public sessions to answer questions and unveil visual simulations of the proposed project last July.
