Death Penalty Filed Against Skylar Meade for Murder of James Mauney

August 2, 2024

Today Elected Prosecutor Justin Coleman filed notice that the State would be seeking the Death  Penalty against Skylar Meade for his actions in murdering James Mauney, of Juliaetta.

“After long and careful consideration I have decided to seek the death penalty in this case. The  senseless and random killing of Mr. Mauney and the facts surrounding what lead to his death,  warrants this determination,” said Prosecutor Justin Coleman.

During the investigation, detectives from various agencies established probable cause linking Mr.  Meade to the murder. After he was arrested in Twin Falls, Mr. Meade pled guilty to charges of escape and was sentenced to life with a possibility of parole after 35 years. Mr. Meade was then  transported to the Nez Perce County Detention Facility with coordination of the Idaho State Police,  Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office and Lewiston Police Department

to face charges of First Degree Murder.

Mr. Meade will be seen by District Judge Michelle Evans for his Arraignment on August 8th.  Defense attorney Rick Cuddihy has been appointed by the Court to represent Mr. Meade in the  case.
