Enrollment on the rise at LC State

03-21-24

LEWISTON, Idaho – Official spring semester census day numbers are in and confirm that Lewis-Clark State College’s enrollment is on the rise. LC State administrators report that overall headcount is up 2.1% and fulltime enrollment has climbed 1.8% compared to this time last year.

Overall enrollment at LC State this spring is 2,787. In the fall, census day enrollment was 3,789, up 0.2% from the year before.

“Like our enrollment, Lewis-Clark State College is on the rise,” LC State President Cynthia Pemberton said. “There’s always more work to do, but I am so proud of our dedicated students, faculty and staff for making LC State the wonderful place that it is. We’re a small college where students thrive, and we’re proud of it.”

Divisions seeing growth this spring include Technical & Industrial (9.9% increase in headcount), Business & Computer Science (3.8%), Nursing & Health Sciences (3.7%), and Social Sciences (2.6%).

The largest programs this spring in the Technical & Industrial Division, housed largely in the state-of-the-art Schweitzer Career & Technical Education Center, are diesel technology (headcount of 32), auto mechanics (29), industrial electronics (21), and welding (19).

Nursing & Health Sciences has more than 500 students spread out over its nursing and radiographic science tracks. Thanks to Idaho State Board of Education approval in February, LC State is looking to add a full master’s degree in nursing this fall, pending approval from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, LC State’s accrediting body.

“LC State is growing its enrollment and expanding its programs to meet the vital health care education needs in our region,” Pemberton said. “Idaho State University does an exceptional job of leading the effort to meet the health care education needs of southern Idaho, and we’re proud to partner with it to expand health care education program offerings and serve as the health hub of north Idaho.”

The largest programs this spring in Business & Computer Science include business administration (170), accounting (91), business management (70), and computer science (54). The largest programs in Social Sciences are social work (153), psychology (93), and justice studies (61).
