Firefighters from Across the Valley Attack a Fire About Five Miles West of Clarkston

CLARKSTON – Asotin County Fire District #1 Firefighters were dispatched to a ranch off of Peola Road at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, June 30.

According to a post made on Asotin County Fire District #1’s Facebook page, when the first command officer arrived he called for aid from City of Asotin, City of Clarkston, City of Lewiston, and Wheatland Fire District.

Fire Chief Noel Hardin said with the hot temperatures, dry conditions, and a light wind made conditions extreme for fire growth. Hardin stated that an R.V. was burning and the fire was spreading through dry grass towards other structures. Many structures and farm equipment were threatened. The black smoke could be seen from Lewiston.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire in about a half hour. One resident received a minor burn on an arm. 2 Firefighters were checked for heat-related issues

Firefighters were able to save a nearby barn and keep it from spreading to the home and the fields

Chief Hardin complemented fire crews from all agencies working together as a large team to save the ranch and livestock in the area

The cause of the fire was a person burning rubbish in a burning barrel
