BROOKINGS, S.D. – Carter Gordon put on a show in the 600m with a second-place finish in the prelims to go with a school record. Geraldin Correa earned her spot in the 800m final, and Christian Bothwell etched his place in LC State history with his finish in the heptathlon. Four Warriors will compete in event finals on Saturday.

In all, nine different Warriors competed in various events.

“Pretty good second day,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “We are disappointed that some of our kids did not make it to the finals, but it is also a learning experience that will make them better for outdoors and their next national championship. London (Kirk) said that he had never competed at a level like this and he would only get better and I hope that mentality rolls through with all of them.”

Gordon and Correa will race for All-American status on Saturday, both looking for their first individual honors.

“Great races by both with Carter, winning his heat with great strategy, and Miss G (Correa) getting through by forcing the race to go fast,” Collins said. “Both have great opportunities to score well tomorrow and we are excited to see them run. Also looking forward to Jennah and Syd jumping. Great stuff ahead.”

THE MEN

Gordon punched his ticket to the final with an impressive performance in the 600m. The sophomore broke Clayton VanDyke’s program record in the event and finished second in the prelims with a time of 1:19.26. Bothwell finished fourth in the pole vault, his strongest event, with a mark of 4.25m.
