Gritman Construction Project Expands Access to Patient Care

MOSCOW ― Construction has started on buildout of several clinical spaces at Gritman Medical Center’s downtown medical office building, a project that will expand access to services on the Palouse and make it easier for patients seeking specific services to receive all their care in one place.

The 2022-23 patient care expansion includes updated and state-of-the art homes for Palouse Neurology and Gritman’s Interventional Pain Clinic. It also doubles the space for both Palouse Oncology and Gritman Infusion Services, including the addition of 12 additional infusion bays. Combining like care areas means many patients will visit a single location for cancer care, pain management and neurology services.

“This expansion builds on our 125-year record of exceptional care for patients right here in the community,” Gritman President and CEO Kara Besst said. “By bringing like services together and expanding others, we are ensuring more of our patients have easier access to specialty services and fewer will need to travel out of the area for their healing and recovery.”

Portions of the building, known as the C.L. Gritman Medical Office Building at 803 S. Main St., were intentionally left unfinished when it opened in 2017. In addition to combining like care areas, the buildout will leave additional space available as the hospital recruits more specialty medical providers.

The project is funded entirely by Gritman and our generous philanthropic partners so we can further meet the needs of our community. The seeds of this expansion were planted earlier this year thanks to a $750,000 leadership gift from Beatriz and Edmund O. Schweitzer III toward construction of the Palouse Neurology space on the first floor.

Patient care areas at the heart of the expansion include:

–      An expanded home for Palouse Neurology (First floor).

–      Doubling of infusion and clinical space for Palouse Oncology and Gritman Infusion Services (Second floor).

–      A state-of-the-art expansion of our Interventional Pain Clinic space that will serve as a “one-stop” for all pain clinic patients (Third floor).

–      The buildout of additional clinic space with future provider recruitment in mind (first and third floors).

–      Co-location of like services, close to parking, with easier access for patients.

Both Palouse Oncology and Palouse Neurology are part of Palouse Specialty Physicians, a regional health care partnership of Gritman Medical Center, Pullman Regional Hospital and Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax.

The expanded services join existing Gritman Medical Center departments as well as tenants including CHAS Latah Community Health and the University of Idaho WWAMI Medical Education Program in the building.

Construction at the medical office building will continue through spring 2023 under management of Sletten Construction, with offices in Boise.
