(Clarkston, WA) – This morning, at approximately 8:15 a.m., a report was made regarding a parent who was seen carrying a firearm while dropping off their child near Highland Elementary. Law enforcement was immediately contacted, and an officer promptly arrived on the scene. The parent was located across the street from school property, where it is legally permissible to carry a firearm. As a precautionary measure, Highland Elementary was placed in a temporary lockdown which lasted approximately five minutes.
The School Resource Officer spoke with the parent to address the situation and emphasized the seriousness, especially given the current context. The parent was cooperative and understood the concerns raised.
At no time was the safety of students or staff at risk, and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure the security of our school community.
