Lewiston, ID- In a message sent out through Facebook and Instagram, 36-year-old Jb Mauney announced his retirement after a serious accident occurred at the pro rodeo xBulls in Lewiston on September 8th.  Mauney was bucked off and landed on his head which led to a broken neck. The surgery took place at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where a disc was removed and rods, plates, and screws were placed.

On Tuesday, September 12th, Jb Mauney posted a picture of him and his family where he thanked St. Joseph Regional Center, shared he was recovering, and announced his retirement.

“All I can say is it’s been quite a party! After the @prca_prorodeo xbulls in Lewiston Idaho I underwent surgery @stjosephregionalmedical on my neck which required a rod/plates/screws and the removal of a disc. Surgery went great and I would like to thank everyone at @stjosephregionalmedical for taking care of me. Unfortunately with the surgery it ended my bullriding career, just wanted to let everyone know that I’m ok and now on the road to recovery!”

Mauney also known as the “dragonslayer” was the PBR World Champion in 2013 and 2015, as well as the Event Champion for the PBR World Finals in 2009 and 2013. Two years ago he transferred to the PRCA where he won Round One of the National Final Rodeo. He is well known as one of the best bull riders to ever compete.
