LC State Baseball, Women’s Track and Field Sweep Conference Honors

CORVALLIS, Ore. – LC State added four Cascade Conference Rize Laboratory Athlete of the Week honors on Monday to bring the 2022-23 total to 20. The Warriors swept both women’s track and field awards as well as baseball. Madigan Kelly picked up her first Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honor of the season, while Sydnie Zywina, Nick Seamons and Trevin Hope all earned the first weekly awards of their careers.

MADIGAN KELLY – WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Kelly hit the A standard in the 60m hurdles with times of 8.76 in the prelim and 8.83 in the final. She won both at the meet to continue her dominance in the event. The Lewiston native tied her school-record time in the 60m dash with a prelim time of 7.90. She was second in the prelim and third in the final (7.93).

This is the first weekly honor for Kelly this season and fifth of her career.

SYDNIE ZYWINA – WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Zywina destroyed the LC State record in the triple jump and punched her ticket to nationals with an A standard of 11.63m. The Orofino native won the event at the meet by nearly a meter and is ranked 10th in the NAIA currently.

This is the first weekly honor of Zywina’s career.

LC State Track and Field is in Spokane this weekend at the Whitworth Invitational.

NICK SEAMONS – BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Seamons had a standout first weekend against some of the toughest competition in the NAIA. The junior hit three home runs in four games for a 1.000 slugging percentage. He tallied seven hits for a .389 batting average and drove in seven runs. No. 2 LC State scored 14 runs over the weekend and Seamons played a role (knocking in and/or scoring) eight of those runs.

This is the first weekly honor for Seamons in his career.

TREVIN HOPE – BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Hope was dominant in his first start as a Warrior. The sophomore helped put together a combined shutout of No. 4 LSU Shreveport in the season opener. He earned the win after going six scoreless innings with five strikeouts. He did not walk a batter.

This is the first weekly honor of Hope’s career. 

LC State wraps up the Florida trip on Tuesday with contests against NCCAA Fort Lauderdale and (RV) Warner (Fla.).
