LC State Earns Three Cascade Conference Athlete of the Week Honors

CORVALLIS, OR. – Lewis-Clark State student-athletes earned Cascade Conference Rize Laboratory Athlete of the Week honors for the ninth straight week, this time with three earning awards. Golf’s Jorgen Lie Viken and Alexandra Schmidt, along with track and field’s Christian Bothwell, bring LC State’s total to 35 CCC Athletes of the Week this school year.
JORGEN LIE VIKEN – MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Viken had a dominant week with back-to-back wins in less than seven days. The senior, ranked No. 9 as an individual by Golfstat, won the LCSC Warrior Spring Invitational with a 7-under total of 209 to win by two strokes. After Tuesday‘s win, the Kongsberg, Norway, native competed at the UPS Spring Invitational over the weekend. He shot an LC State career-low round of 66 to win the tournament with a 4-under 138 for the two-round tournament.
is is Viken’s third honor this season and fifth of his career.
ALEXANDRA SCHMIDT – WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Schmidt had a busy week with two tournaments and placed in the top two in both. The senior won the LCSC Warrior Spring Invite for the second victory of her career. She finished 1-under in Lewiston with rounds of 71 and 22 for a 143 two-round total. She participated in the UPS Spring Invitational as an individual and finished a stroke behind the leader with a 154 two-round total.
This is Schmidt’s second honor this season and third of her career.
CHRISTIAN BOTHWELL – MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Bothwell had a dominating win the decathlon at the Bucs Scoring and Multi and is currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA with 6,322 points. The total is a career-high for the senior and included a huge career-best mark of 4.45m in the pole vault. The height is the fourth-best in LC State history. Bothwell finished second in the 110m hurdles with a PR of 15.84.
This is Bothwell’s second honor of the season and of his career.
