LC State Hits Five Homers in Game One of Doubleheader Split

Alisha Alexander | LC State Sports Information Director

LEWISTON – Four home runs in the first inning of the first game set the tone for the opening contest of Saturday’s doubleheader with Corban, but the visiting Warriors turned the tables in the nightcap. LC State ended game one early by a final of 15-5 in eight innings, and Corban responded with a 7-1 win in game two.

LC State held Corban hitless through the first six innings of the first game behind starter Dallas McGill, and Jace Hanson gave the Warriors a strong start in game two.

After the first two games of Cascade Conference play, LC State is 16-4 overall and 1-1 in CCC action.

“Dallas gave us a quality start and our offense came out ready to play in game one,” Head Coach Jake Taylor said. “Other than Hanson’s start on the mound, not a lot of anything went our way in game two. So far this season, we have struggled to put nine quality innings together and it caught up to us today.”

GAME ONE: No. 3 LC State def. Corban 15-5 (8 INN)

The LC Warrior offense put on a show in the bottom of the first with six runs on six hits. Nick Seamons and Isaiah Thomas opened the inning with two straight singles before Pu’ukani De Sa, Sam Olsson and Dominic Signorelli blasted back-to-back-to-back home runs. The five straight hits made it 5-0 in favor of LC State. Carter Booth added one more with a solo shot for four home runs in the inning.

Corban answered with a run in the top of the second without a hit, but LC State responded with one in the home half of the inning. Seamons singled to lead off the frame and scored on a double by Olsson. A passed ball brought in another LC run in the third to make it 8-1.

Booth tallied his second solo homer of the contest in the bottom of the fifth with a drive over the center field wall. LC added on once again in the sixth with a pair of singles by Thomas and De Sa. Jakob Marquez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give LC an 11-1 lead through six.

Corban was held hitless until the seventh, then struck for four runs between the seventh and eighth innings to cut the lead to 11-5.

Walks to Signorelli and Booth put two on ahead of Jack Sheward in the bottom of the eight. The sophomore doubled down the left field line to plate both, then scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Cruz Hepburn, who reached via a walk, scored on a wild pitch to end the game in eight innings.

LC State starter McGill earned his second win of the season after striking out five in five innings. He did not allow a hit. Bryson Spagnuolo faced the minimum in his lone inning.

The first four in the LC lineup, Seamons, Thomas, De Sa and Olsson, each tallied two hits and De Sa drove in four runs. Signorelli and Booth both scored three times.

GAME TWO: Corban def. No. 3 LC State 7-1

Corban starter Bryce Bridge put together Corban’s best starting pitching performance of the season to subdue the LC Warriors in game two. He fanned six batters in seven innings and did not allow an earned run. LC starter Hanson also had a strong start, but Corban took advantage of the bullpen for six runs in the final four innings.

Back-to-back walks to Booth and Sheward put two on, and an error on a ball hit by Leo Rivera brought in the lone LC State run in the contest.

Greg Blackman and Jake Green each gave up three runs in their two innings, and LC was unable to respond offensively.

LC State tallied six hits in the game led by two by Booth.
